Tunisia - Dirt Roads II - Cragged Paths

The Rugged Rides 12/8/2025

Between Tunisia's northern coast and the chotts in the middle of the country there's a stretch of land where basically nobody goes. It's full of rocky mountain chains, carved up by water into tons of gorgeous canyons. It's way less green, instead you've got endless man-made fields, popping up wherever the ground is even a little bit flat. Winding between them is a dense web of sandy tracks, all lined with rows of prickly pear cactus acting like natural barbed wire.

Feel it? Narrow, sandy paths full of ruts and twists, and if your line doesn't match the track… you're heading straight into the cactus. First blood already drawn, but hey, it's a perfect training for what's coming in a few days. :-)

Tunisia is following the path of civilization, which sadly means almost all the main roads are now paved. And as we all know, "asphalt" is kind of a dirty word in our fancy companionship, acceptable only if you add that it's like… max 10%. The tracks we're taking are old roads, barely used, sometimes half-collapsed. Thankfully, this wilder side of Tunisia is still alive!
